CARE AND FEEDING OF LAPTOPS (from Ms. Markle):
A few suggestions for preventing damage…
- Laptops are not to be removed from the case for any reason. It’s part of the agreement they signed and the laptop will be taken from them if they don’t comply.
- Students need to make sure they have zipped the case before picking up the laptop.
- Obviously, NO FOOD OR DRINKS AROUND COMPUTERS!
- Students are storing papers under the laptop. Those papers are covering the cooling vents at the bottom and causing the laptop to overheat and the circuits to burn.
- It’s getting colder outside and laptops are NOT to be left in cars for any reason. Cold screens will break as they heat up.
- Students need to shut completely down before they leave the building in the evenings. The wireless disconnects if they don’t.
- Laptops are for educational purposes only and not for playing games. I’m re-imaging one today because of viruses it got from gaming.
One other thing, many students are bringing their laptops to me for repair and not bringing the power. I cannot repair a computer that has no power. J
If I haven’t said it before, thanks for encouraging students to use their laptops and for making the laptop 1 to 1 program successful.
